Born as Jasmine Lucilla Elizabeth Jennifer van den Bogaerde, commonly known by her stage name Birdy. “Birdy” was her nickname given by her parents when she was a child because she used to open her mouth like a bird when she’s being fed. A British singer came into popularity due to her cover performance of Bon Iver’s Skinny Love.
For the record, her birth name is long!
I’m very fond of her because of her distinctive voice. Though her first album was a collection of cover performances, on her own way, she was able to put something new on the table. I first heard her Skinny Love through my sister. Upon hearing her voice, I was like “Who’s this girl?” – I could literally feel the emotion!
On her second album, it caters her compositions that proves us all she’s more than an artist who can just make covers.
Also three of her songs were featured on the film adaptation of John Green’s The Fault In Our Stars book.
Here’s the link to her cover performance of Avicii’s Wake Me Up – more feels.
A talented and, yet shy performer. A very lovely woman with an angelic voice – what more could you ask more?!
